Owen Chamberlain Fellow, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Shion Kubota received her Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University and is currently an Owen Chamberlain Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States. Her research focuses on neutrino physics, particularly advancing next-generation detection techniques while exploring how fundamental science can be translated into societal impact.
She is also committed to science communication, appearing on YouTube programs and giving public talks to make cutting-edge research accessible to broader audiences. Supported by the Ezoe Memorial Foundation and the Masason Foundation, and as a finalist of the Mitsui Mirai Challengers program, she has drawn on these opportunities to further push her research forward.
In addition, she serves as a board member and mentor in several foundations, working to foster young scientists and promote diversity in STEM. Believing in the power of science to drive future innovation, she continues to pursue research, outreach, and mentorship. Kubota has been recognized internationally as a Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia honoree and as one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35.
