Shigeru Handa

As a director at AAIC Investment, a venture capital firm specializing in African healthcare, Handa is responsible for the full investment cycle, including sourcing, due diligence, and execution of startup investments. After the initial investment, Handa serves as a board member and mentor, providing support to portfolio companies for international expansion, fundraising, and impact creation. Handa also works with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to run accelerator programs in Africa and Eastern Europe, focusing on discovering and supporting the growth of promising startups. Additionally, Handa facilitates business matching between Japanese corporations and startups in emerging markets and provides support for global health impact creation and business development. Prior to joining AAIC, Handa was involved in new business development, launches, and business reforms at various organizations, including the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC, now JICA), Boston Consulting Group, Natural Lawson (startup), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Iraq office/Partnerships Bureau. Handa currently serves as a board member for six startups, including Africa Healthcare Network. As part of an international development support work, Handa also serves on the board of the Plan Japan of Plan International NGO.Hold a Bachelor of Laws from Kyoto University, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Accounting from the University of Southern California.
